Vatican: “Let there be water for everyone”

The Holy See contributed to the Sixth World Water Forum which was held in Marseilles between 12 and 17 March, with the document Water an essential element for life: Designing sustainable solutions

In a document published by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the Holy See condemns the fact that about half of the world’s population still does not have adequate access to water, despite some progress having been made.

The text - prepared for the Sixth World Water Forum – advocated “better management of water resources on the part of public authorities, private sector operators and civil society” and invites all these parties “to act responsibly, with sobriety and solidarity.”

The World Water Forums which are organised every three years by the World Water Council, brings together private and State entities and representatives of a number of associations to analyse and develop a long term vision of this vital resource.
